Amplifying Consumer Safety via Product Classification

 

The Challenge

Our client, a rapidly growing multinational e-commerce company, needed support to review and classify the thousands of products being sold on its online platform every day. The company wanted to ensure that all product descriptions were not only accurate but also safe for consumers (such as being free of harmful content). In order to achieve this, the company needed to quickly build a large team at an offshore location following strict security measures to ensure the safety of the product information.

Using our global recruitment team, DataForce recruited and vetted over 100 people in one month, rolling out the project gradually while engaging more people. DataForce also established a seven-day-a-week shift schedule within the team, ensuring that all newly incoming products were classified promptly.

DataForce redesigned the existing location to fit the strict security requirements by building partitions in existing offices and installing closed-circuit camera systems. DataForce built and continuously trained a workforce dedicated to classifying thousands of products on a daily basis across over 67 different categories and sub-categories. 

With high productivity and quality targets, DataForce built a training framework of continuous training via testing, feedback loops, and review sessions both within the team and partnering closely with our customer. DataForce also deployed specially assigned QA team members to ensure that productivity and quality met customer expectations. For productivity, we reached the target of 1,000 products audited per day within the first week, and we reached a pass rate of 96–97% within 15 days of project start, maintaining that level throughout the whole project. In total, over 7.5M products were classified during this project. 

By using DataForce’s technology to recognize products in user-uploaded images, our customer was able to provide more relevant product recommendations, enhancing the overall customer experience on the site.
